A new addition to the family: Off Road Land Rover 90

The new addition to the Land Rover blog family! Its always the way, you aren't looking for another Landy, but when you least expect it one turns up which you know is too good to refuse. So when my friends off road 90 came up for sale, it got me thinking!

I have known this 90 for a few years now, and to be honest, I didn't think my friend would ever sell it. The 90 has had no expense spared on its preparation and maintenance, and has only travelled 4000 miles in the 4 or 5 years he has owned it!

So when I saw it up for sale, I knew I wouldn't find a better Landy for the money. I thought about for about 5 days before picking up the phone to Colin. Could I really justify another Landy, even one as heavily prepared as this one?

After one look at it in the flesh to remind myself how good it really is, and looking through a folder full of receipts for the modifications and work, the answer was a resounding YES!

My new Land Rover 90So here it is pictured at a static show last year to promote Torbay 4x4 Club.

As you can see, it is extensively modified for off road by its previous owner. Its been built on a 1988 Land Rover 90 chassis, that has had no welding! Colin even went as far as painting the chassis every year whether it needed it or not!

So lets have a little look at the spec:

  • 200Tdi Conversion
  • Recon gearbox
  • 2inch lift kit
  • Dislocation cones
  • Full external roll cage
  • Rock sliders/jackable sills
  • Tree sliders on tub and doors
  • QT Diff guards/steering guards
  • X-brake
  • Polybushed
  • Bespoke snorkel from OEC
  • Full wading kit to roof height
  • 9500lb winch with emergency cut out in cab
  • Winch bumper
  • Side exit exhaust
  • Chequer plate on bonnet, wings, bottom of doors, inside tub and cab
  • New heater
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Safety hammer
  • Toolbox
  • Alloy jerry can holder
  • CB Radio
  • 265/75/16 Insa Turbo Special Track tyres
  • Modular wheels
  • 4 Roof lights
  • 2 Spot lights on bumper
  • Rear work light

He also let me have all his off roading gear with the Landy including:

  • Tow rope
  • 6 spare wheels and tyres
  • Challenge 4x4 ground anchor
  • Hi lift jack and base
  • KERR rope
  • Snatch straps
  • Tree strops
  • Shackles
  • Wheel chocks

So there it is, without a doubt, the most sorted Land Rover I have owned. I can see me having a lot of fun in this one, and of course all work, mod's and competition reports will be here on the Land Rover Blog.
