On Sunday 7th March 2010 at Trago Mills in Newton Abbot, Devon there will be a 4×4 challenge event in aid of breast cancer.
Torbay 4×4 Club is entering 3 or 4 teams, and I will be there in the 110 to give it a go. If you don’t know what a challenge event is, then think orienteering with vehicles!
Each vehicle has a punch sheet attached to the windscreen wiper, and then the punches are tied to trees in rather inaccessible areas of the forest.
The aim is to get the vehicle’s punch sheet to within reach of the punch and mark it on the sheet. Then its off to find the next one. To get to the punches usually requires the use of winches and technical off road driving.
As this is designed as a fun light hearted event in aid of charity, there are 2 trucks per team, and no winches are allowed. You will have to work as a team to get to each punch. You are allowed to use tow ropes and strops – but BOTH vehicles must get to the punch for the score to be counted.
There will be 10 easy punches, 10 medium punches, 5 hard punches, and 5 brain teasers along with other challenges.
Spectators and marshals are required, and I believe anybody that marshals gets free tea/coffee and food all day!
It costs £25 per vehicle to enter with all proceeds going to charity.
