Over the weekend I had my first call out as a member of the Devon and Cornwall 4x4 Response group.
The group is part of a network of volunteers with 4x4's who help out the community when the weather conditions mean the usual transport methods don't work!
The group is called in to help by the emergency services, and at 9am on Sunday morning I was called to collect a nurse who lived deep in the south Devon lanes. She was snowed in and needed to get to her local hospital for work.
The untreated lanes were snowy and had areas of compacted ice which needed diff lock and low ratio at times.
The main roads were clear, but while I was out on the call out it started snowing again. Within an hour the whole local area came to a standstill with cars sliding all over the place!
I completed the journey and dropped the nurse off at the hospital. She was very grateful for the service provided.
