Before Christmas I fitted a second battery and split charge kit in the Land Rover.
So now I have a second battery to run accessories, it was time to add a 240volt inverter to the Landy.
An inverter takes the 12v source from the second battery, and turns it into 240volts so that you can use everyday power items which have a UK 3 pin plug.
You can buy various size inverters depending on what equipment you want to use with them, but I opted for a 300watt (900w peak) inverter. This should be more than enough to power my laptop or TV for example.
I had to work out a way of mounting it. I knew I wanted it mounted on the bulkhead, just behind the passenger seat. This way it can used in the front of the vehicle whilst travelling, and also from the back of the car when parked for the night.
So I used an aluminium bracket bolted through some wood and onto the bulkhead. The wood was used as a spacer to allow air flow around the inverter.
I then took some acyclic plastic and attached it to the top of the aluminium bracket. I then used strong Velcro sticky pads to fasten the inverter to the plastic. This makes for easy removal.
The wires then just passed into the battery box under the passenger seat and got attached to the second battery.
I then used some p-clips to tidy up the wires and the result is what you see on the right.
So there you have it. An straight forward installation which provides me with 240v should I need it when away from home.
