How to change the air filter on a Range Rover DSE

Having taken delivery of my Range Rover DSE, the first thing I wanted to do was give it a basic service.
I had noticed on the drive home the engine seemed to be a little hesitant, and there was whiffs of black smoke out the exhaust on higher rev’s, which usually indicates overfueling (or not enough air!).
So as the air filter is a cheap service item that is easy to replace it was the first thing I did! Its a very easy job, and this is how you do it!
Changing the air filter on a Range Rover
On a Range Rover, the air filter is located on the right hand side inner wing and is square in shape.
1: Undo the clips on the air filter box. (see pic)
2: Lift up the lid and remove the old air filter.
3: Clean any debris from the bottom of the air filter box. You might find dust/dirt and leaves in the bottom, so clean everything out.
4: Fit the new air filter
5: Replace the lid, and fasten the clips.
That’s it, a simple operation that takes less than 5 minutes.
As you can see from the photos, the old filter was restricting the air flow so much, the suction was deforming the filter! I wonder how long this filter has been in place!
The result: Much better throttle response, noticeable from the moment you pull away. Job done!
