When I had a Land Rover Discovery, I wrote an article on how to change the air filter. Now I have a Defender, its time for the article on how to change the air filter on a 200di engined Defender.
A dirty air filter will make it harder for the engine to breathe, so its always important to make sure you have a clean air filter.
The air filter is another cheap service item that is easy to replace. It takes a couple of minutes to replace, and this article will show you how.
Changing the air filter on a 200tdi Land Rover Defender
Air filter location: On a 200tdi engined Defender the air filter is located on the right hand side just behind the radiator. On a 300tdi Defender, it is located on the left hand side above the engine.
Tools: You will need a screwdriver to undo 1 jubilee clip
1: Undo the the jubilee clip that secures the hose to the air filter box. (see pic)
2: Undo the 2 clips which hold the air filter housing in place and pull the housing clear so you can get at the knob at the end.
3: Unscrew the knob and remove the end of the air filter housing
5: Clean out any debris from within the air filter housing and fit the new filter in place.
6: Screw the plastic wing nut back on to secure the air filter element, and then replace the end of the air filter housing.
8: Reattach the hose and tighten the jubilee clip.
There you go, that's it! A simple operation that takes less than 5 minutes, and will help make sure your engine breathes properly!
