Here is a 10 minute piece that was shown on BBC's Countryfile last weekend.
Its an article about your right to drive your Land Rover, 4x4 or bike on legal byways in the UK. There are some which want to ban vehicles from the trails and Country file puts together an ok view of the situation, but its far from perfect.
I'm not sure I like the way they used footage from a legal pay and play day, in sections talking about illegal offroading. If you missed the part at the beginning when it was mentioned that its private land and legal, you would be left thinking that the pay and play guys were illegally off roading.
Anyway, you can find it here (scroll through to 17.50 for the off roading piece):

On my road trip next year, I am going to be wanting to power some accessories (laptop, interior lighting etc) in the evenings/overnight.
If I connect them to the main battery when the engine isn't running, then it will be drained overnight and I won't be able to start the Landy the next morning.
So the answer is a second battery and split charge kit. This is how I installed it.

For some time now the oil presure light on the dashboard hasn't been coming on when the ignition is switched on.
So having ruled out that the lamp itself was at fault, it could only mean one thing - the oil pressure switch on the oil pump was faulty.
It takes about 5 minutes to change, and this is how you do it.

Here is an awesome video showing the capabilities of the Land Rover Freelander 2.
It was shot at the Land Rover Experience centre in Honiton, Devon. An employee of the centre talks you through how the Freelander manages to do what it does.
Take a look.

With the current run of cold weather it's always nice to know the outside temperature so you are aware of any ice risk. It's also a handy tool in the summer months when its warm outside.
During my Portugal road trip last summer in the Mitsubishi, having an idea of the outside temperature was a a godsend when temperatures reached 40 degrees Celsius and above.
So I hunted around on eBay to find a 3 in 1 clock/thermometer that I could fit to the Land Rover. I found one for around £10 that shows inside and outside temperature and has an inbuilt clock.

If you have been following the blog over the past few weeks, you will have seen I have been on a quest to make a secure area in the back of the Landy.
Firstly I ditched the windows by fitting hardtop sides and then fitted a dog guard and then modified it into a bulkhead.
I have now turned my attention to the rear windows, and set about tinting them to stop prying eyes. I sourced my window tint film from eBay. I got 3mtrs x 76cm for about £5 including delivery.
This was more than enough to do the main window and the two quarter-light windows, and meant that I had plenty left over should I make a mistake!
Here's how I did it

Following on from last weeks insulation of the hard top side panels, I have now continued with the hard top roof of the Land Rover.
Taking the same pine cladding and thick eco loft insulation from B&Q, I applied the same principle as the side panels to the roof area.
The result is the back end of the Land Rover is now fully insulated and looks a lot tidier. I have already started to stain the wood on one side and have to complete the whole roof now.
Here's the photos:
