Land Rover Off Road Modifications: Snorkel

Over the next couple of weeks, we will be looking at various Land Rover off road modifications, from snorkels to suspension, and winches to roof racks.

So to kick start it today, here is the low down on a snorkel or raised air intake.

A snorkel, also known as a raised air intake is not an off road essential, but is damn useful if driving in dusty conditions or fording deep rivers or streams.

This means it is well worth fitting one for overland adventures as well as general off road driving.

Make sure you pick he right model of snorkel for your vehicle and engine - you don't want to reduce ari flow to the engine as it will reduce performance.

Likewise, you cannot risk any water getting through the seals, as any water that gets into the engine will cause severe damage!

Always buy from a reputable manufacturer like Mantec or Safari. They are fairly straight forward to fit, but you may need access to specialist tools like a hole cutter or step drill. If in any doubt get a reputable specialist to fit it for you!
