Land Rover Insurance
With the arrival of the new Discovery imminent, it is time to sort out the insurance.
Having owned a number of Land Rover's before, i have tried most of the specialist Land Rover insurers, so i had my favourites list to hand, and started to ring around.
I started with NFU Mutual, they have always provided an outstanding service with some of my previous Land Rovers, so it was time to see what they could do.
I spent around 25 minutes on the phone to the NFU, as they outlined some of the features of their policy. The guy on the other end of the phone was super helpful, and really knew what he was talking about.
I currently have my maximum no claims bonus on a different car, and as the Discovery is going to be a second car, i asked if they could "mirror" my maximum NCB. I knew some insurers don't offer this, but was pleased to find out the the NFU do, and they would give me maximum NCB on the Discovery. In addition, they would protect my NCB, and give a further "mutual discount" as i also have my business insurance with them. The NFU gave me a number of different quotes depending on whether i wanted protected no claims bonus, different levels of excess etc.
Next attempt was Adrian Flux. They have provided some great quotes before, and i have had a number of policies with them in the past, but after a lengthy conversation it became apparant they couldn't beat the quote from the NFU. They also said, they couldn't "mirror" the NCB onto my second car. Oh well, it was worth a try, and i can still recommend you get a quote from them because they are damn good, and i have had no problems with them in the past.
I tried a few other insurers too, including Lancaster Insurance Services, but they weren't as competitive as the original NFU quote.
In the end i opted for the policy with the NFU. With a £250 excess, the a 12 month fully comprehensive cover set me back £300 - this includes insurance for travel in all EU countries, legal protection, windscreen cover, and locks cover. My NCB is protected as well. I also opted for full RAC recovery cover, which was an extra £60, a feature worth having with a Land Rover!
They also informed me that the RAC breakdown cover can be extended to Europe for around £30 for a trip of up to 17 days. This is handy, as the first major trip for the new Discovery is going to be to the Île d'Oléron in France over the Easter weekend.
So with the Discovery insured, i am all ready to pick it up in the next few days.
