Land Rover Defender Project: Adding Electrical Accessories
I been a bit busy lately, trying to sort the interior of the Land Rover to my liking.
Up until now I have had no power sockets in the Landy to run accessories from (likes GPS, phones etc). So at the weekend I bought a 3 way power socket from Halfords, cut off the cigarette lighter adapter and hard wired it into the vehicle.
The centre clock never worked so I ditched it, along with a redundant switch, and mounted the power sockets in the middle of the dash. I can now run my GPS and phone from the power sockets.
Just off to the left I mounted the CB, within easy reach of myself and any passenger, the aerial is attached to the front winch bumper.
I also grabbed some battery powered LED lights from Morrisons. They are a bargain at £2.99 and come with an integrated hook and a magnet on the back. I have already found them useful as work lights when working under the Landy.
Future plans
At the moment, everything is wired into the main vehicle battery. But I have aquired a split charge kit off a friend and will be looking to add a 2nd leisure battery soon.
I can then run a lot of electrical equipment off the leisure battery without the fear of draining the main vehicle battery - but first I have to find the money for a decent leisure battery!
