Land Rover 110 Project: New wheels & tyres
I have been hunting around on eBay for quite some time, looking for something to replace the oversize wheels and tyres on the Land Rover 110.
I was pretty keen to go back to the standard Defender tyre size of 7.50/16, put wanted a mud terrain pattern as I am off road pretty much every weekend.
I had also done a lot of research, and ideally wanted the Michelin XZL mud tyre, as it was a good strong tyre and suited for what I have planned for the 110. But at £150 a tyre, it was waaay out of my price range!
So after getting home from work one evening last week, I sat down at the laptop and searched eBay to see what had been listed during the day.
To my astonishment there were 5 new Defender rims fitted with brand new Michelin XZL tyres. They had been taken off a new Defender so the owner could fit alloys. The price was an absolute bargain, with a buy it now of just £200.
It took me all of 2 minutes to decide to buy them, even though they were in Surrey, and it would mean a 3 hour journey to pick them up - but at this price it was too good to pass up!
The very next day, I headed up to Surrey from Devon with my dad to collect the wheels and tyres. The guy worked for a company exporting Land Rovers to Africa for aid agency's. He said the Land Rover they came off was destined for export to Africa, but the deal had fallen through. So instead he had bought the vehicle himself, and put alloys on it. Another little bonus was that as the Landy was destined for Africa, all the wheels are fitted with inner tubes!
Its not very often I manage to score a proper bargain, but on this occasion I did and am pretty stoked about it!
