How to change the air filter on a Land Rover Discovery
A dirty air filter will make it harder for the engine to breathe, so after my recent mod's of removing the EGR and de-catting the downpipe, I wanted to make sure the engine was getting as much good clean air as possible.
THe air filter is another cheap service item that is easy to replace. On a Land Rover Discovery, the air filter is located on the right hand side inner wing. On a 200Tdi it is cylindrical in shape, and on the 300Tdi it is square.
It takes a couple of minutes to replace the air filter on a Discovery, and this article will show you how.
Changing the air filter on a Land Rover Discovery
1: Undo the 4 clips on the air filter box. (see pic)
If you have a 200Tdi Discovery, you will need to unscrew the knob on the end of the air filter cylinder, and the filter will slide out.
2: Lift up the lid and remove the old air filter.
3: Clean any debris from the bottom of the air filter box. You might find dust/dirt and leaves in the bottom, so clean everything out.
4: Fit the new air filter
5: Replace the lid, and fasten the 4 clips.
That's it, a simple operation that takes less than 5 minutes.
Here is the difference between the old and new air filters - its plain to see how black and clogged the old filter is. This will restrict air flow into the engine.
