Flushing your Land Rover cooling system
With the recent warm spell, now is time to check over your cooling system for the forthcoming summer.
I recently flushed the entire cooling system on the 110 as it was long overdue.
Its important to clean the cooling system every now and again as sludge can build up in the system, slowing the water flow, which can lead to overheating and possible engine damage.
Its another easy job that doesn't take long - just remove the top and bottom hose to the radiator and run a hosepipe through it until the water runs clear. Also do the same with the engine.
Then refill the system with the correct antifreeze mixture and the job is done.
While I was doing mine, I took the chance to remove the viscous fan assembly and fit twin electric fans that I salvaged from a car at the scrap yard - cost me just £5. That's a massive saving over a Land Rover electric fan kit which retail at £100+.
I wired the fans so I can run them independently or both on at the same time for maximum cooling. I don't run them off an automatic temperature switch, so I just have to keep an eye on the temp gauge, but it doesn't really creep up above half way unless I am in traffic.
